Probable kit list for TGO Challenge in May 2014.

As some of you are aware I'll be crossing Scotland with Chris Townsend in May 2014 as part of the TGO Challenge.
Below is a first draft of the kit I'll probably take.
The maps were 900g, I had to add a map, as the list was missing one. So that made about a kilo. I have removed the covers, and cut them down to 360g! This weight doesn't include a plastic case. So will need to be added to total weight. I could send some maps ahead to save a few grams... but that's a gamble...
Also I have only listed one pair of underpants, maybe I need two!
Ron Bell at MLD is making me a cuben groundsheet for the Trailstar, so I'll swap that for the current sheet. I'll also probably add an extra peg or two. Maybe swap the Type three compass for the larger type 4. Maybe add a spare battery for camera and GoPro, though the power packs should easily be plenty! My first aid will probably be increased a bit too. I'll probably take Paramo trousers. So all or any combination of these things may take me just over 10kg. My aim is 10kg all in. But I'll not skimp for comfort or safety just for figures.
NB - I reiterate this is an early draft, as the above indicates. Weather and a discussion with Chris nearer the time may change this.

That's brave taking the kilt Tony, it wouldn't be my first choice for a Scottish crossing. Light yes but not too practical if there's much wind. I ended up taking a pair of paclite trews which were worn nearly everyday.
I don't think Ron Moak lasted long with his quilt on our 2012 crossing.

Hi Shewing
I think you missed my Montane Pertex trousers listed in clothing section?
Will Pertex be Ok? They very light and waterproof. Not sure on breathability.
The kilt is multi use. If not too windy and not too many people around its a kilt... It's a door for Trailstar (pretty sure it'll work). It's a groundsheet for my feet to remove my shoes / socks when getting changed and keep them off wet ground.
Did you take insect repellent?
Sorry for delay in reply. I usually get a notification. Blogger didn't notify me this time

Take care :)

Driving 'license', is it American like other bits of your kit? ;-)

I would be surprised if there were midges by mid-may but you never know. Check the midge forecast nearer the time.

Tony Hobbs said...

Ah, spotted the deliberate error lol ;)
I asked Chris, he said he's never taken insect repellent on his tgos, so hardly likely.

Have a nice day ;-)

Not sure how to reply to your comments Tony so I guess I have to start a new comment.

I'm a huge Montane fan, I wear loads of it except for my shell layer, no other reason other than I just like Paclite trews and my eVent smock, when they die I'd like to try the Pertex Shield, probably the Minimus.
I took bug protection, but only a tiny amount of Wilmas Nordic Summer in a tiny screw top container. Needless to say I never needed it, we encountered a handful midges at a lunch stop near Lochnagar but that was it.
Have a great crossing Tony, I look forward to seeing your report, will you be recording much film on the way?
Cape Wrath Trail for me in August/September this year.

Did I confuse you? It's easily done :)
Thought I answered with questions for your opinion, which you gave, very helpful. Good yo know you'll try Pertex :)
I have Berghaus paclite but montane minimus lighter.
I love montane, but my local store doesn't do it, but do rab.
I'll definitely film as much as I can.
Hope you enjoy film and your trip.

Hi Tony, just catching up on some of your previous videos and kit lists, and noticed you recently switched from using a cuban Duomid to cuban Trailstar. What was the main reason for the switch. I'Ve been using a Trailstar for a while now, but if I'm honest I'd prefer a shelter with a decent door and so I've been looking at the duomid. Interesting that you changed the other way.

Photo Retouching is one of the most impressive services in photo editing. It helps to bring a positive vibe and look on the photos. Most of the end-level users are in great needs of Photo Retouching Services. But you need to be careful while selecting the best one.
